About this site
McKeen is an independent publication launched in February 2025, dedicated to unraveling the complexities of mind, movement, and meaning. Through a multidisciplinary lens blending philosophy, psychology, physiology, and cutting-edge AI research, we bridge the gap between rigorous peer review and bold speculation. Our mission is to ignite thought-provoking conversations, challenge conventional wisdom, and inspire new ways of understanding what it truly means to be human.
That's how ChatGPT told me to describe my site for "maximal flow and readability".
My educational background is originally in Kinesiology and for a long time, I wanted to be a physiotherapist. This was until my third year of Uni when I took a class titled Brain and Behaviour.
Nothing was ever the same thereafter.
I focused on Autism Spectrum Disorder during my graduate studies with an emphasis on the movement dysfunction that often accompanies the condition. Of course, this was many years ago, and life has since carried me elsewhere.
This publication is a resurrection of these earlier philosophical interests of mine—what is the mind and how does it work? How does our body turn neural activity into musculoskeletal movement? How do we get the most out of our lives? We approach tenuous questions like these through the lens of physiology, anthropology, history, but also philosophy, and computational science. Some posts are merely curated free associations while others are more comprehensive empirical investigations. Given the comparative effort and scrutiny involved, the longer pieces will generally be reserved for the paid member's section, although shorter empirical pieces will sometimes land in the free member's area, so keep an eye out.
My mission here is to inform you but also to inspire you to dig deeper on your own. Every article I write is practice—nothing is ever really finished or complete...
Until it's read and reflected by another mind.
Hope to see you on the other side of the mirror.
